Tourguiding
Five Pointz is gone completely. Just another dull hole in the sky and empty lot full of nothing. Just a few months ago, the 7 train was the most delightful surprise in NYC, arising out of the underground, beneath the East River you'd see an explosion of color.
Now nothing.

Jeremiah's Vanishing New York
It's a city of Ghosts.
When I first moved there
(1997)
The laments were constant, and you felt glad to be able
to grab onto your piece of the island before moneyed erosion hit it
But things have chnaged more now
Int he past 5 years
And now the city that best embodied the idea of the internet
has mirrored its progress.
Ads and corporations have taken over,
and all the weird voices have been marginalized
And left ot hide in dark alleys
until they are crowded into the Hudson and East Rivers
and are now only speaking underwater
and in New Jersey.

She could relate the Republican argument thoroughly. Even when it went directly against her own experience.

She spouted old headlines, Soviet space shuttles were trash (even in the presence of those from a former Soviet republic)

She believed in the myth of "You just need to Work Harder". She held herself to pretty high standards. And held everyone else to them as well. No excuses.
"If I could discover my Mom hanging in our bathroom at age 8, if I could learn how to do my own laundry from then on, then you can learn to balance your friggin checkbook!"
